Girl arrested after changing teen’s name to ‘masturbate’ in yearbook
A girl was arrested after school officials did not find her yearbook prank to be funny at all.
Kaitlyn Booth, 17, who attended the Hickman High School in Columbia, Missouri, was arrested on suspicion of first degree damage to property, a felony, and harassment, after she allegedly changed the name of her classmate from Raigan Mastain to Raigan “Masturbate” in the school yearbook.
Booth’s prank went
unnoticed until after the yearbook was already printed. About 720 yearbooks were affected. Reprinting the yearbooks would have cost the school $41,000. Instead, the staff spent 12 hours putting stickers on the word masturbate so it should read Mastain’s correct name.
Mastain was a real sport about the incident, she said she was not happy with the joke, but not angry either. She understood it was meant as a joke and she did not take it personal. She also said that she does not want Booth to be charged criminally for the prank.
“Mastain seems like a smart and mature girl, she could have seen the incident as bullying, but instead, she took it for what it was, a prank. I wish her a lot luck with her cool attitude. She will be able to accomplish a lot in life,” Philip Olson, 45, of St. Louis, Missouri told YourJewishNews.com after learning about the incident.
Mastain was surprised that Booth was arrested over the prank. “I understand the law, but when you’re in highschool, you do things that are not necessarily the smartest, and this is an example of it,” Mastain said.
