13 More Killed In Plateau As Gunmen Attack village
At least, 13 people were yesterday confirmed dead in an overnight attack in Attakar village in Ganawuri district of Riyom local government Area of Plateau State.
A member representing Riyom in the House of Assembly, Daniel Dem, told journalists on phone that the village never had problems with the Fulani; thus had no military presence, was attacked in the midnight of Wednesday.
He said dead bodies littered the Village Square and commended the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area, who he said, prevented the situation from becoming worse.
Meanwhile, residents of Mavo community in Wase Local Government Area which came under attack on Wednesday, have started leaving the village.
A source said he saw villagers moving out with their properties while some were seen moving out with their livestock Meanwhile, the state government yesterday said it was saddened by the attack on the Mavo community which led to the death of three people.
A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Pastor Abraham Yiljap, said, “the tragic incident in Mavo, Wase LGA is saddening, all the more as the feud is between neighbours who had lived together for many years.”
It stated that Governor Jonah Jang had immediately directed the deployment of soldiers to take charge of situation and urged the people to remain calm, adding that security forces will prevent any escalation.
